Intro
Sooooo as usual going to be doing a bit of a blog of my international travels. Couple of things before we get started.
1. Im not phased by bad grammar or spelling. If this is a prob either get over it or dont read on.
2. There will probably be a lot of comparisons with aussie locations/culture
3. If you dont like pics of food ( youll probably dislike me talking about food so id skip alot of the below)
4. Holidays fucking rock.
5. The iphone/ipad app sucks for loading pics in mid post so i have to do them seperately. Wtf tumblr sort it out.

Day 1
So departed at midday on friday. For the first time ever i didn’t go out and get wasted the night before an international flight. Feeling very proud of myself. Bit different to previous times ive travelled as this time as im alone for the intial parts. Not a prob obv but i definitely noticed it changes your atittude when your travelling alone. Less excitement and more just getting to your location.
Lucked out on seats and managed to get nearly a whole row to myself, was gon be great for sleeping. Ironically realised i checked my sleeping tablets into my luggage instead of carry on :s
7 movies, 3 meals and 18 sleepless hours later got to LAX for changeover
Inital thoughts from lax was how true the american obesity stereotype is actually true. I felt tiny (and healthy) next to these people in line. After going out of my way to say hi to a guy in cowboy boots jumped on the next plane to vancouver. Flew over a bunch of mountain ranges which has got me crasy amped for snowboarding. Pics below.
Managed to steal an hour of sleep on this flight and then landed in van and was met by erin. Managed to completely miss duty free (HOW?!?)
Erin took me on a quick driving tour of vancouver around where she used to live work etc. a place called kits which is on the water and beachey but not really like a classic australian beach, very similar to st kilda in melbourne.
Could already tell that vans a beautiful place, even from a car. More on that later though as we headed off to meet Sam and Tracey where they live in chilliwak/cultus lake which is a really nice place on a lake about an hour and a half out of van.
We all had dinner with erins olds. Really nice people, her mum souild probably win some ‘nicest lady in the world award’. Her father showed me some pics of bears his friends had hunted and i realised i wouldn’t be able to eat bear while here. Pretty devo.
After that we ducked up to trace dawg/sams place and had drinks with erins and traceys friends - first part of the night was great, second part i can’t remember but have ascertained that sleep deprived + gin is a terrible combination for me it seems. Good to know that regardless of which country im in i can still make a twat of myself haha

Day 2 - HUNG
Rose quite late as i desperately needed some sleep and then spent the afternoon chilling out on the couch watching movies and (much to my dismay) recapped the night before.
That night we had dinner with traceys parents. Probably the best ribs ive had in my life. Ribs and Rumps eat your heart out, you’ve lost the title.
Watched the hockey game on tellie while having drinks. Starting to feel like that is thr canadian way haha.
Short day this one as was very much a recovery day.

Day 3
Awoke hung over again (are you starting to see a trend here?) havent had phone battry so not many photos for the last few days.
Saw my first bit of classical north american wildlife today, a racoon. Still waiting to see some sort of massive canadian wildlife, hopefuly in whistler i can ride a moose down the mountain or something.
Spent this day relaxing and recovering once we got back to van. My internal body clock was totally out of wak from not sleeping for virtually 40 something hours straight, drinking, being hung over and not much else so needed a chill arvo and night at erins. She had to work for a while so smashed out a bunch of disney movies on the couch then went for a walk around vancouver at night. Erins is right in downtown vancouver so was able to get a feel for the nightlife. Did a mosey along granville st which is basically vancouvers kings cross. Was pretty nice. Got called a ‘faggot’ by a homeless guy lying on the street, must have been the burgundy chinos (thankfully the ponytail/bun was under a beanie or i can only imagine what he would have done).

Day 4
Spent the first part of the day wondering around van with erin, really is a cool spot. Today was misty/rainy but im mot phased by that, it seems to add to the character of the city (and again reminds me alot of melb). There’s so much foliage and greenery everywhere that it all really pops out due to being covered with water, the air is like crazy clean as well. CRISP is prob the best word. Vancouver has tons of waterways also so you have views looking out over the water and can vaguely see ships far off through the mist. Looks pretty cool.
Van is a reeaallly green city. Lots of citys in western culture could learn alot from this place. All the buses run off electricity -pic below. The taxis are all prius’. Theres a massive bike culture here with lots of bike ways, lock up spots out the front of every shop, great bike share system. Its also fairly flat so really is a bike riders heaven. Im going to hire a cruiser on one day and go for a big ride, theres a long sea wall that runs right around the city so will prob hit that.
The people here are also crazy nice and polite. With the exception of the homeless population though which is really high. It almost feels like there’s another homeless person every 10 metres lying on the ground. I don’t know how they survive tbh as it gets bloody cold at night. Apparently there was a mental asylum/hospital here which was closed down a few years ago and everyone was just ejected onto the street hence the high population of homeless people. Surprising seeing how good natured and polite canadians are that they would let that happen.
Had lunch at a crazy nice vegetarian restrant today in kits called Naam. Nmber 2 on lonely planets must do joints in van.
Currently sitting at a brewhouse in yaletown (think surry hills) enjoying a tasting plate of beers and having a pizza typing this while erins at work. After this im going to a film showing which is going on here at the moment as part of a film festival on mountain culture. The one tonight is afeature on the 2011 movie all.i.can. Which is a combination of mountain culture and environmental responsibility. Going to be pretty mad. Will post a link to one nof the scenes shortly.
Following that meeting up for some late night nachos and sangria. Lifes hard at the moment lol.
